Medical Foot Care

The feet, which carry the whole body in daily life, deserve resting, relaxing and aesthetically corrective treatments. This type of care, which is mostly preferred by women, but also preferred by men recently, is usually called pedicure in hairdressing salons and beauty centers. In the pedicure process, the feet are first kept in warm water for 15-20 minutes, then the nails are cut and filed with a metal file. With the help of a metal file, the cuticles on the edge of the nail are removed and cut from the bottom with the help of scissors. The dead layers on the soles of the feet are swollen with the effect of waiting in water and these swollen tissues are thinned by pumice. The hand tools used are generally cleaned with simple methods without being sterilized and used by everyone.

In medical foot care, special devices, sterilized hand tools (pliers, special router bits), disposable materials and special foot care products designed for feet are used by the podologist who knows the anatomy of the foot and nail anatomy. Feet are not kept in water, the process is a dry process. Cuticles on the edge of the nail are NOT cut by lifting them with a sharp tool. The cuticles, called the cuticle, located in the area between the nail edges and the nail plate, act as a protector against the risk of infection that may come from the under-nail tissues, and aggressively removing and cutting in the area creates a risk for the nail area and nail bed. Since the feet are not kept in water, only the part that needs to be removed from the dead tissues on the sole of the feet is treated. Therefore, while cleaning the swollen tissues in water, as in the pedicure process, unnecessary tissue loss does not occur. In our foot health unit, care is carried out by podologists using special devices, router bits and sterile equipment in accordance with hygiene rules. The soles of the feet, between the toes, around the feet and nails of the person sitting in the care chair are checked, and the person is informed about the existing or potential problems, and a consent form is given and asked to be filled.

Nail; cut straight from the free end and shortened. Filing is done with the milling bit attached to the device. Cuticles adhered to the nail surface, dead nail tissue on the nail surface are cleaned with the help of suitable milling cutters. Then, the dead keratin tissues accumulated in the nail beds are removed with milling tips. Cleaned nails are disinfected with a suitable disinfectant solution. Foot care is taken. The dead tissue on the sole of the foot (such as the area on the head of the heels and scallops, the tops of the toes, the edges of the feet) is cleaned and thinned with the help of milling bits. Fingers are checked. The feet are cleaned and dried again with the help of disinfectant. The care is completed with creaming and foot massage. Medical foot care is repeated in 3-4 week periods.
